KAMLOOPS, BC- The script sure looked a lot like Thursday night for the Midnight Sun Goldpanners. Struggling bats, dominant opposing pitching, and a loss that seemed to be looming.

But with the Seattle Studs leading 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning, the tide turned.

Travis Andersen had a bases loaded 2-RBI single off reliever Taylor Thompson, scoring Josh Ashenbrenner and Eric Lane, giving the Goldpanners a 2-1 lead, one that would hold up as the final score.

Through five innings, starter Josh Berry silenced the Goldpanners bats, holding them to just two hits. But when Ashenbrenner was hit by a pitch, and Lane walked to start the sixth, there was a sense that the Goldpanners were gaining momentum.

After Lane’s walk, Thompson- who got the win against the Goldpanners in the Studs 2-1 victory over the Goldpanners Thursday- came on. He gave up a bloop hit to David Duetchman, loading the bases, and setting up Andersen for his heroics.

Derek Speigner, got the win in relief, going two scoreless innings of relief. Stephen Foster was the starter in this game, giving up the only Studs run, which was unearned in the first. Carey Schwartz pitched an effective 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, coming in for Foster in the first.

With the win, the Goldpanners advanced to face the Everett Merchants, the only undefeated team in the tournament. The championship game is set for 3 p.m., and will be nine innings, as opposed to all other games in the tournament which were only seven.
