1943

Letter To Florence Dennis (Toni) from her brother, Willard Burns Wright (Scotty).

This letter was written just after I had my appendix out in Sidney Australia. I was in a U.S. Army Hospital that was run by a group of Doctors and Nurses all from Johns Hopkins, from here in the States, so you know I had excellent care. There were a lot of  Marines there that had been wounded in the Guadalcanal fighting. While I was lying around there doing nothing I asked if to use up some time they would take out my tonsils, and they said "sure, no problem" so they did and believe me that was a lot worse than having my appendix out. With my appendix operation I never missed a meal or used a bedpan. I remember as I was waking up from the tonsils operation the first thing I heard was two nurses talking and one said to the other "Well he may not have had anything to eat but he sure had a lot to drink" I was throwing up all over the place. From there I spent some time in a convalescent hospital in down town Sidney and finally caught up with my outfit at Nelsons Bay Australia.
