WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE DOING THIS SUMMER?I used to shoot too, but no longer. Gloria R R
Hi Fellow 'mates.Yes, I'm back in California and would love to be back on the list of non-missing-in-action 58ers. I love the craziness and just keeping up with what y'all are doing.Stan and I spent several weeks with Mother when she was hospitalized in Tennessee, then traveling to SD and making arrangements there for her to be able to stay in her own home. We now have her on Hospice because her condition of congestive heart failure is beginning to take its toll. At 94 she is an amazing lady, she is still fabulously alert and she still gets around with a walker. We are so blessed to have found a local couple to live-in and be her constant caregivers, a real answer to prayer.Either Phil, our younger brother Ron, or I will travel home every 4 to 6 weeks to see her and give the caregivers respite. Phil and Betty and their daughter Amy arrive in Sturgis today.I know many of you are now facing this sweet time of caring for aging parents or have already seen your precious ones slip away from us. The sobering realization is that we are the next generation! How did it get here so quickly?Anxious to hear from all of you. Wishing you, Ann, Happy Trails as you See the USA!Love to all,Phyl b w
This is an interesting topic.
Our year (from Feb. 2009 till May 2010) will be built around our daughter-in-law (Kristin) who is taking nursing classes through the University of Oklahoma - extension courses with colleges in San Diego. It is an accelerated course and very difficult. The part Becky and I play is to mind our 2 grandsons (Jimmy - 6 and Ethen - 2 1/2). This usually involves 2-3 days of the week.
Beyond that we are going to our Cancun time share at the end of June (taking our 2 grandsons) and expecting a great time. We usually have a group of 20+ family in Cancun on the odd-year. This year it will only be 9 - due to the economy. We have been doing this since 1988 and never get enough of the sun/sand/ and clear Caribbean water.
Throughout this summer we will have our grandson (Hunter 10 yr.) from Alaska to do things with - along with the rest of the grandkids. Our oldest (Stephanie) will be going to college this fall at a Christian school in Indiana (Hyles-Anderson). Another milestone.
At this time I am trying to plan another trip (during Thanksgiving) to either St. Thomas (Virgin Is.), Dominican Republic, or back to Puerto Vallarta Mexico. I would also like to get back to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo. We could see Janice Hardy in Z-town.
Being retired is getting to me. Too many things to do and not enough money. I guess that is why Becky still works 2 day a week. Having a homeowners association takes care all the work on the front yard and the exterior of the house. Since I have completed all the repair, painting, landscaping and irrigation of the side and rear yards it doesn't require much of my time. All that leaves is computer time and hobbies in the community. I now golf 2+ times during the week, fitness center 3 mornings, senior soft ball 2 times a week, ballroom dance lessons, babysitting, and club events. Yes we are taking ballroom dancing lessons - I want to do the tango like Al Pacino in "Scent of a woman". Good Luck on that one.
I just hope my body, mind, and money can see me through. Trust in God.

Well, Cathy pretty well covered the waterfront. Can't match her busy schedule !
I made a trip to Cleveland TN in April, kind of a dual purpose plan to attend a Church Leadership Conference and spend time with my mother in the hospital there. She had cracked a vertebrae and had the little surgery thing done where they put in a type of "cement" that hardens. We praise the Lord that it worked. Phyllis and husband Stan came in from CA, I met them, brought them back to Cleveland to my brother Ron's and we discussed our plans. That is, to have Stan and Phyllis fly to Sturgis with our mother and get her set up in her home again. They have found a lovely Christian couple to live with mother and help her with her needs. She is well pleased. They will move in with her later this month. That has been our biggest challenge and we are so thankful. Stan and Phyllis will return to CA in June and the plan is for each of the siblings to make a week or 2 visit to Sturgis this summer to assist as needed. Hope to meet up with as many classy mates as possible.....drink lots of coffee and spin yarns .....get melancholy.....and take another drive thru the beautiful and unique Black Hills...that is always a must !
Spring here has brought me to reality......thatch,fertilize and clean the yard.Tune up the mower (yes it IS a push type.....I NEED the exercise ). Prune bushes, trees, and plant the "appropriate" flowers for the little lady.. Oh, and clean the gutters. After this was all finished I went down the street and did the same for my mother-in-law. She gave me a much better $$ tip than my wife did ! Weekends get busy with a bread ministry to the Homeless, church van driving and church music twice on Sunday mornings. Our choir announced an October trip to NYC for a music conference by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir again. Then we take in all we can of the Big Apple and play tourist. Love that big city....but only to visit ! That's about it for the Virginians. Phil
Winter Over??? What do you mean Ann, our trees have just started to leaf out, we are late, late, late. I've had a busy week, last week was gone two days to a meeting in Bismarck for the State Hospital Auxiliary Convention. My good friend Barb is State President and asked me to be her Secretary, half way through the term so will be glad when that is over and done with. Hasn't been too bad I must admit. Got home from that last Thursday, Friday night the girls who live here came with their families and for Mother's Day they always clean up the yard and get my deck furniture out of the shed and cleaned up. We were to do it on Saturday but the weather forecast was for cold and rain so ended up doing it on Friday night.Saturday got ready to leave on Sunday to go to Sturgis. Drove as far as Dickinson on Sunday and then went down on Monday and met my brother there. We had a nice three day visit. Went for a ride up in the hills on Wednesday, it was very windy and ended up a really good blizzard above Lead. We were glad to get back down to the lower elevations, had a good laugh about that one. Stopped in Deadwood for a little while, Paul hit on the quarter machine and I hit on the nickel machine, used the bathroom and cashed in and left, they didn't make any money on us.We were busy the whole time there so didn't get a chance to call or see anyone from the class. Drove all the way home yesterday so am tired today. I have to stop doing that. I take two days going out so I am not so tired when I get there but always push it to get home, hate to admit that I am getting old and can't do those things anymore. Will go to Minneapolis to my son's over Memorial Day weekend, my granddaughter will be confirmed on the 26th. First week end in June will be going down to the Rochester, MN area for a graduation party for my youngest niece on Joe's side, middle of June will have Caitlin and Annika for 10 days while Patty, Bob and Danielle go on an Alaskan cruise. Danielle will be a senior next year and they want to do something ahead of time and she picked the cruise. Caitlin was invited to go along but doesn't like to fly or be on water so opted to stay with me, not near as exciting. They told her they would take her on a trip between her junior and senior year and she could pick where to go, she assured them it would be someplace they could drive. Lots can change between now and then as she is an 8th grader.Hope to spend a quiet week end getting caught up on things around the house. Hope all of you are having a great Spring, we missed that season this year, unless it is coming next week, here again late, late, late. More later. Cathy
Dearest Classmates,
Hi to all, yes I am alive and doing so so much better. It's been a long and slow recovery and still months to go to
get back my strength and "get-up-n-go". I've been taking the "fuzzy mind" meds for pain all this time, but now I
am finished (I think) with this and believe that I have clarity of thought again and will try to write this with that
in mind.
I sincerely want to thank all of you that prayed for me concerning my surgery. A special thanks to our "Prayer Warriors"
that sent me powerful and encouraging e-mails before, during and after this ordeal, thank you for your faithfulness.
God heard and again proved His faithfulness in answering in a super positive way, the tumor was benign, thank you Jesus.
My son and DIL were with me and cared for my every need for weeks, I'm so blessed to have them in my life, plus living so
close to me.
My doctor has given me permission to go back to work a few hrs. per week, as I can handle this task, which I am doing. It's
good to be back doing something constructive and seeing all my friends, who have been so kind and concerned. What does a girl
do with all this love,
However, I am so limited to doing any lifting and outside yard work, this is NOT a good thing for me, as gardening & my flowers
are my passion, but.....I promise to be a good patient and follow doctors orders OK.
I hope that all of you are looking forward to your spring/summer activities. Please stay healthy and safe.
Sincere thanks from my heart,
In Jesus precious name
Charlee & KeKe
Busy busy time here. I played trucker this forenoon, helping the men truck pairs to the lease ranch about 15 miles away. I drove the pickup and horse trailer with the calves, Rod drove the semi with the cows and Howard drove the pickup transporting the portable chute that we need to unload the semi. We made two trips and took all forenoon. Thank goodness I had put a meal in the crock pot as I got home at noon, and the men a little later. Rod got kicked by a cow in the stomach, Howard by a calf in the hand and I was the observer. Every one will be fine, I pray. This afternoon I did some tilling, planted cucumbers and hustled getting stuff put away as the clouds built up and the wind hit, hail, and rain. Got .27 here in about 5 minutes and not enough hail to damage anything. Put a pizza in the oven and hit the shower. Now to get ready to watch dancing with the stars. A favorite of mine. Our daughter in law in Faith called around 5 and the tornado whistle blew and everyone headed for the shelter, it passed and then Dupree was under the gun. Haven't heard any results except Faith got just rain, wind and very little hail. Better sign off, but wanted you to know also that Howard has whipped the flu. Just tired tonight after a big day. Thanks for thoughts and prayers.
I don't know if I shared with all of you, but on May 1 we had a granddaughter born to Robert and JoDee. Kathryn Faith makes 9 naturals and 6 adopted for that family. We are back up to 29 grandchildren (as most of you know we lost a 16 year old grandson in August of last year). She is very precious and good size. 7# 10.8 oz and 20 inches long. Kay S I
I am a retirement failure. Sleeping late, eating too much, watching dumb stuff on TV just isn't my idea of a good time. So I have taken a couple of fun jobs. Wisconsin Central District is a group of entertainment buildings in the heart of Milwaukee. Several evenings a month, I usher for a wide variety of events, ranging from indoor football, Broadway theater, the Bead and Button show, music events, and comedy shows. Last Saturday, James Taylor gave an awesome vocal concert to a packed out house. I felt as though I had run a marathon by the end of the evening- I even had achilles tendonitis to prove it.
I took a 6-12 hour/week nursing position with two group homes in the area. They are licensed to serve people who need some assistance, but are able to complete many duties themselves. All are elderly, some have special needs. They all love hugs, and I love giving hugs.
In June Paul and I plan to drive to our condo in Montana for an extended stay. Our youngest son, Roland, who teaches in Kunming, Yunnan, People's Republic of China is getting married in Whitefish, Montana. Paul and I are hosting the wedding there.
Other than that, we have 5 children to visit, 10 grandchildren to hug, and a couple of dogs to pet along the way. Wave if you see us passing though your town.
Matilda (Tillie)
Ann's Summer should be a fun one.... The easiest way to explain it is to have you read the press release the team put out today.... We will probably be traveling through several areas where you all live!!
